Gordon Leverton's art is recognizable at a glance: striking geometry, vibrant palettes, and shadows that stretch across surfaces like time. By isolating structures and simplifying form, he invites viewers to see familiar spaces with a fresh perspective.

His work captures not just what a city looks like, but how it feels. It's a practice built on close observation, abstraction, and deep attention to what's often overlooked.

Being self-taught just means you found your own way in. That's exactly what Leverton did. With no formal art training, he turned to the city around him for inspiration. Rooftops. Alleyways. Side Streets.

He began breaking the built environment into planes of colour, light, and shadow-transforming the everyday into bold, graphic compositions that carry his unmistakable voice. Leverton is proof of what's possible when you stay curious, keep working and trusting your perspective matters.

VINTAGE CHARM

Located in the heart of Barton Village, Hamilton (Canada) came the inspiration for Vintage Charm -home of the former Nixon's Grocery - a family operated grocery store in the 60s- 70s'.

The transformation of the Barton Street Village (Hamilton) has strong community of entrepreneurs, makers, creatives, innovators and residents.  It is a place of unique opportunity, offering close proximity to Hamilton's downtown, a pedestrian-friendly streetscape, classic housing stock, and a growing small business network.

I am pleased Vintage Charm was juried into Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant - 2025 Biennial Juried Exhibition showcasing contemporary art from artists from across Ontario.

Located in Glenhyrst Gardens, a beautifully landscaped sixteen-acre park on the banks of the Grand River, the Gallery offers exciting views both indoors and out. This picturesque property was bequeathed to the City of Brantford by Mr. Edmund Cockshutt in 1956.

Immersing into a local culture is an essential part of becoming an observer. It’s important to witness daily life and be part of a city to bring new approaches, to experiment, and grow in my artistic practice. Using acrylics, Leverton explores a theme common to the urban experience - how community connects us all.
