Tropicalia

Colonia Americana was awarded as the best neighborhood in 2022 + 2024  and its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. It is an emblematic neighborhood characterized by its Art Deco and modernist architecture -including some houses designed by the laureate architect Luis Barragán-, and the majestic Parroquia El Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento, an impressive neo-Gothic church. 

This particular storefront was a gathering place for the neighbourhood locals - a place of belonging, comfort and home away from home - to catch up on the daily "local news" (aka gossip) while enjoying tacos and beers. The storefront was just closing shop as the owners were leaving to enjoy their afternoon "siesta "time. The Mexican siesta has deep cultural roots and serves an important purpose as to take a mid-day nap or break to escape the hottest hours of the day and recharge for the afternoon. 

This storefront - which I now call "Tropicalia" - immediately caught my eye with its bright neon pink, against the bright white facade casting the shadows from the mid day sun.
