A bit about Gordon
Originally from Chatham, Ontario, Canada, Gordon is an award winning, professional self-taught artist who has been working at his practice since 2006. While pursuing his passion for music, he worked in many facets of the music industry including performance, writing, and promotion, which eventually led him to fulfill his dream of owning his own record store, IN YER EAR Records in Hamilton, Ontario. After selling off IN YER EAR Records, Gordon focused on being a stay-at-home father and it was during his daily walks with the kids, he became fascinated by the inner networks and webs of alleyways and streets. His latent love of art and design soon reemerged, and he was inspired to capture these emotions on canvas.
Gordon breaks down the city into component parts. Shadows, buildings, and skylines all become part of the same plane and transform into pieces of a puzzle. Using acrylic paint, Gordon explores a theme common to the urban experience: how community
connects us all.
Gordon was awarded the 2024 City of Hamilton Arts Award in the Creator category for his artistic practice. The jury commended Leverton as a celebrated Hamilton artist known for captivating depictions of the city.
