Gordon Leverton's art is recognizable at a glance: striking geometry, vibrant palettes, and shadows that stretch across surfaces like time. By isolating structures and simplifying form, he invites viewers to see familiar spaces with a fresh perspective.

His work captures not just what a city looks like, but how it feels. It's a practice built on close observation, abstraction, and deep attention to what's often overlooked.

Being self-taught just means you found your own way in. That's exactly what Leverton did. With no formal art training, he turned to the city around him for inspiration. Rooftops. Alleyways. Side Streets.

He began breaking the built environment into planes of colour, light, and shadow-transforming the everyday into bold, graphic compositions that carry his unmistakable voice.

Gordon Leverton is proof of what's possible when you stay curious, keep working, and trust that your perspective matters.

Leverton has created a new body of work inspired from his 2025 international artist residency in Mexico, travels to Peru and Portugal, communities in Toronto (Canada), and from his hometown in Hamilton (Canada).

Vintage Charm by Gordon Leverton - Inspired from a storefront on Barton Street Village, Hamilton, Canada

VINTAGE CHARM

Located in the heart of Barton Village, Hamilton (Canada) came the inspiration for 'Vintage Charm'  - the home of the former  "Nixon's Grocery"  - a family operated grocery store in the 60s- 70s'. The transformation of the Barton Street community is well underway with the large presence of Hamilton Health Sciences - The General Hospital and the new Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre.  Barton Village has strong community of entrepreneurs, makers, creatives, innovators and residents.  It is a place of unique opportunity, offering close proximity to Hamilton's downtown, a pedestrian-friendly streetscape, classic housing stock, and a growing business network.
