Title:  Rikchariy (Awaken)
Size: 40h x 40w inches
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Inspiration: District Barranco / Municipalidad de Barranco), Lima, Peru

Peru as a country boasts a mix of cultures, climates, and architecture. What makes it an incredible place to visit is that modern Peru seamlessly blends its diverse history. Each culture and each historical period are still visible and alive throughout the country. Traveling through Peru, I noticed a recurring theme was not only the country’s architecture, but the way it was adapted to changing circumstances. Dwellings are now usually constructed with whitewashed adobe bricks; roofs are constructed with wood, straw, and hand-made clay tiles.

We found our way to the district of Barranco where I found the inspiration for RIKCHARIY [Awaken]. Barranco was once it was Lima's beach, pleasure and entertainment district for wealthier Limeños (during the colonial and republican times). Barranco was at the beginning of the 20th century home to famous Peruvian writers and artists which gave the district a unique character.

The daily life in Barranco is more relaxed and quieter than in the rest of Lima. The city center invites you to stroll around, visit old colonial and republican houses and enjoy the many other amazing sights that Barranco offers.
